Background
Today’s major civilizational conflict is between Western liberal democracies and Eastern
authoritarianism. Areas from the Eastern shores of the Mediterranean and Mesopotamia to
Afghanistan at the gates of the Subcontinent may well be the decisive frontline of this global
conflict.
Meanwhile, Prince Reza Pahlavi’s declaration of the “New Covenant” has brought about a ray of
hope for the Iranian secular democratic forces at the epicenter of that troubled region.
Guidelines
It is against that background that the Art Fund was set up to receive donations and finance such
endeavors in the release of information gathering, educational practices, and solutions
developed by Middle Eastern - and especially Iranian - secular democratic establishments. Its
funds are earmarked mainly for those aimed at the following goals:
1. Understanding the ideological and Islamist Fundamentalists’ points of view, as well as their
means and methods.
2. Focusing on the socio-political aspirations developed amongst the new generations with clear
inclinations towards freedom and secular democracy rather than ideological or religious
fundamentalism.
3. Finding solutions for problems that stem from the conflict between Islamist Fundamentalists
and forces for freedom and secular democracy whose struggle is for joining the global caravan
of progress and modernity.
4. Producing educational materials in the form of sites, e-magazines, books, and audio-visual
works to enhance and expand the social awareness of young generations about the importance
of political secularism that would result in perdurable democracy.
